About Our Logo
In June, 1992, the United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development, known as the Earth Summit, was convened in Rio De
Janeiro, Brazil. This 12-day summit, the largest environmental
conference ever held, was attended by over one hundred heads of
state and tens of thousands of private citizens. In order to show
their commitment to future generations, Earth Summit participants
and attendees signed their names to the earth summit panel stating:
“… I pledge to act to the best of my ability
to help make the Earth a more secure and hospitable home for
present and
future generations.”
Each
of the letters in the Future Generations logo were selected from
various Earth Pledge panel signatures, with the intent that
it should embody the hopes and aspirations of all who rejoice
in the beauty and riches of the Earth.
